Richard represents Tisbury ward on Wiltshire Council
Unitary council by-election for Tisbury Unitary Division of Wiltshire Council on Thursday 8 June 2023
Richard was elected at the by-election following Cllr Nick Errington's resignation. He lives in Tisbury following a career in the manufacturing industry and he is passionate about sustainability and how our community can play its part in protecting our greenspaces and rivers, which make living here so special.
He says "there have been a huge number of meetings and online conference calls since I was elected in June, as well as many people who’ve asked me for help. At Wiltshire Council, the most significant event of the summer was publication of a draft review of the Local Plan that has since been the subject of a major consultation exercise. I was pleased to arrange a visit for me and a number of Tisbury and West Tisbury Parish Councillors to see around the Wessex Water effluent treatment works. The good news was that the managers we met appeared to be doing everything they could to respond to public anxiety about the impact effluent and untreated sewage is having on our rivers, but they had to admit they don’t currently monitor the storm water overflow pipe that carries raw sewage into the Nadder (just beside the Tisbury children’s playground) so there is a long way to go.
As well as action on water quality, my key priorities for the ward are fighting inappropriate development and investing in road safety."
