Work to start on Melksham roundabout

The improvement works will start on February 4 to introduce traffic signals at Farmers Roundabout on the A350. The signals have been designed to improve traffic flow and reduce delays. The work should be completed by October.

Wiltshire Council is working closely with its contractor Dyer & Butler to plan the sequence of work to minimise disruption - although there will be delays as traffic management and lane closures will be required. .

A temporary 30mph speed limit will also be in place while works are going on.

Signs have been put up to give plenty of notice to long distance motorists.

The outline programme of work will be:

• Farmers Roundabout - early February to late spring
• Western Way (off-peak lane closures, with a week of night closures) - late Spring to Summer
• North of Farmers Roundabout to A365 junction - Summer to early Autumn
• Completion of works - October

As part of the works, improvements to the appearance of the area will take place including clearing vegetation, removing weeds and foliage, sign maintenance and general cleaning. There will also be revised signing and lining, drainage improvements and extensive resurfacing .

Dyer & Butler are hosting a "Meet the Contractor" event on 11 February at Melksham Town Hall from 4pm until 7:30pm. People are welcome to pop in to talk through the project, get further information, and discuss any concerns or queries.

The total scheme is anticipated to cost around £3m and funding is largely being provided through the Department for Transport's National Productivity Investment Funding (NPIF), following a Wiltshire Council bid.
