We are seeking the public's support to take leadership of the council in the 2021 local elections so that we can work with residents and communities to recover from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and build a stronger, greener, more prosperous, more caring and more progressive county.
The manifesto sets out the policies we want to implement over the next four years and the immediate priorities that we would act upon in the first few weeks after taking office.
Over the past decade, the Conservatives have cut the services that Wiltshire Council offers its residents, virtually destroying the youth service for example. At such a turbulent time, with both COVID-19 and the Climate and ecological emergency offering unprecedented challenges, the council needs more courage and vision to take on the challenges of the future and do better for its residents.
Services that councils like Wiltshire provide are more vital than ever in times like these: from care and housing to transport, mental health support and youth services.
We are asking the voters of Wiltshire to give the Liberal Democrats the chance to take a new approach, working with all of you to make this county a national leader in how to run a council for its people's benefit.
This manifesto explains how.
"The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no-one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity.
We champion the freedom, dignity and wellbeing of individuals, we acknowledge and respect their right to freedom of conscience and their right to develop their talents to the full. We believe that the role of the state is to enable all citizens to attain these ideals, to contribute fully to their communities and to take part in the decisions which affect their lives."
