Update from our new Lib Dem Councillor for Trowbridge Lambrok - Jo Trigg

Starting to get into the swing of things. I think. Maybe. Barely scratching the surface...but starting at least. 😊

Cllr Jo Trigg

Pre Christmas was always going to be more about organising my time in 2020 than in significant actions now but have already met with some key individuals - Community Engagement Manager for Trowbridge and the Trowbridge Town Clerk.

Both Liam and Lance are hugely passionate and committed to their roles and have been able to ensure I know more about key issues in the town and provide introductions to the next layer of services. I've also planned meetings with - local police, Studley Green Primary school, Selwood Housing, Wingfield Care Home, Trowbridge Future (inc Youth Services) and the Wiltshire Yeoman pub! I'll be discussing issues highlighted when I was canvassing and provides opportunities to keep listening to the needs of everyone in the area.

I've also been able to formally raise some issues, so these are now in the council pipelines - from speeding to street names, litter to road conditions - how each of them are progressed will be a learning process for me and I hope to report on the various situations in the not too distant future.

Votes per MP 2019

Hard to ignore that a key chunk of my time in December was focused on the General Election. Those who are far more articulate than I have given post result analysis. I have little to add other than I am obviously extremely saddened by the overall result and am aware that it has left many distraught.

It does continue to demonstrate the need for proportional representation - Tories gained just 330k more votes vs 2017 GE and multiple seats, the Liberal Democrats gained 1.3 million more votes but lost a seat. Only 43% of the voters voted for Tories - please remember that fact when the 'huge mandate/large majority/people's government' gets bandied around. We must clearly hold our government to account and continue to fight for justice and equality for all. My focus will be on our local community trying to make tangible

improvements wherever we can.
