Trowbridge Town Council Leader weekly column

20 Oct 2020

THIS article is a short article to help explain the differences in responsibilities between Trowbridge Town Council and Wiltshire Council and who does what.

Several residents have asked for clarification about who they should contact about various issues or support in the town. This article aims to clear some of that up. Will do this in a question and answer format again as I think that works well.

So we have two councils?

Yes, and the two councils are responsible for very different areas of public service and physical areas with one covering the whole of Wiltshire while the other focuses on very local support.
In Wiltshire, we are lucky (in my opinion) to only have two councils. In some areas of the UK, like Somerset, there are three councils, 1) Parish/Town Council 2) District Council and 3) County Council.

We have what is called a Unitary Council (no district councils) so we only have Trowbridge Town Council and Wiltshire Council. This helps us run a lot more efficiently.
