Thorn opposes inappropriate developments in Town Centre

Cllr Ian Thorn has backed the campaign to oppose a planning application submitted by Churchill Retirement Living off the Pippin. "I'm in favour of specifically designed homes for the elderly if the demand can be proved. However this proposal is far too large, doesn't provide enough parking, or enough space for shops and undermines the Masterplan the Town Council have been working on for some years."

Ian has also been made aware of discussions for the redevelopment of the Co-op store off Church Street. Initial proposals include adding a third storey to the building, 57 flats and retaining the current building. "This is a missed opportunity", said Ian. "If anything like these proposals come forward as a planning application we will have missed the opportunity to build something much more in keeping with the heritage quarter and the setting of St Mary's Church."
