Teacher training opportunity at special needs Fairfield Farm College

11 Feb 2021

The special needs Fairfield Farm College in Dilton Marsh is providing a new teacher training opportunity, starting in September, 2021.

The college provides opportunities for young people and adults with learning disabilities, and has a limited number of applications to develop and train as a Further Education (FE) Tutor in a unique educational setting.

Unlike many tradi tional teacher training courses, the course is held on one evening a week, to give flexibility when trying to work full-time. The course can also be attended virtually online, adding another layer of flexibility to those who cannot attend in person. Because of the unique educational setting, the college has teaching placements in the college as well as training in a Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) environment. Students can learn a wide range of professional teaching methods, obtaining a Diploma in Education and Training (Ascentis Level 5) at the end of the two-year course.

Dr Graeme Athey, Deputy Principal, Fairfield Farm College said: "This exciting new course gives hands-on experience to those hoping to train to be a teacher in a real-life educational environment. We can also offer teacher placements to our students, removing another additional pressure, and making the process that little bit easier."
