Sunday Parking fees will hurt Corsham

1 Nov 2018

The Lib Dems have launched a petition against Wiltshire Council's plan to increase parking charges, including Sundays and bank holidays. Corsham's historic town centre has over 80 retailers and restaurants but getting people to use it is a growing challenge. Retailers have expressed concerns that increased parking fees will drive more business out of the town.

Lib Dem Trixy Alberga is working with the Town Council to explore ways to make the town centre more attractive. "I will be working with the owner of the Martingate Centre, Andrew Hall and Wiltshire Council to see what can be done. We need to attrct residents and visitors into the town centre and increasing parking charges won't help. I hop people will sign the petition to send a message to Wiltshire Council that this proposal is a false economy that will do more damage than good."

Trixy will also be running three focus groups from residents, businesses and tourists to find ways to attract more town centre custom. Please email your ideas to her at cllrtalberga@corsham.gov.uk.

The petition can be found at wilt.lib.dm/sundayparking.
