Questions raised about care homes in Wiltshire

Unison has written to Wiltshire councillors asking if provisions are in place to help workers in the county's care homes. Care workers should receive full pay if they need to shield or self-isolate, and those continuing to work should have the PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) which they need to keep themselves and their residents safe.

The official WC answer is that care providers have been told about the need to keep paying employees, and the council's financial offer allows them to do so. PPE requirements are being successfully met from existing suppliers.

Council leader Philip Whitehead said: "I would also like to take this opportunity to say a personal thank you to all of our brilliant care workers who have shown dedication, strength and never-ending kindness through the pressures of the last few weeks. I am confident that every member of Wiltshire Council feels the same."

How is it in reality? - if you work in a care home and would like to confirm or challenge the official line then please get in touch.
