Plans progress for new leisure provision in Trowbridge

10 Jul 2022

Wiltshire Council has provided an update on its progress in investing in leisure provision in Trowbridge, as it looks to provide provision that supports the community for the long-term.

As agreed in the budget in February, Wiltshire Council has allocated £25m to update leisure provision in the town, as part of its capital investment programme.

The council has appointed Max Associates to carry out work to gather an understanding of the current leisure needs and priorities of the community. This will involve engaging with a range of stakeholders and reviewing data to ensure that the final plan that is put forward is the right one for the community and will be sustainable over the long-term.

Once that work has been completed, the council will look at the viable options for possible locations for new provision. A number of factors will be considered throughout the entire process, including the impact on public health; the local economy; community; environment; and financial sustainability.

Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: "We are passionate about providing high quality leisure centres and services for our communities. Therefore, it's important that we get this right, as it's a significant investment and one that we want to have a lasting positive impact.

"We are carrying out careful due diligence so that, right from the off, provision is shaped around the needs of its local community and represents what people want - while providing a multitude of health, social and economic benefits for the people of Trowbridge.

"Our Business Plan is clear, we want Wiltshire to be a place where people are active in vibrant, well-connected communities. This investment will certainly help us deliver on that mission.

"We will continue to keep people updated, via the area board, as this exciting work continues."

The update on the leisure centre was heard at Trowbridge Area Board on 7 July.
