One care home resident died every minute during the peak of the Covid-19 crisis

"One care home resident died every minute during the peak of the Covid-19 crisis" reports the Daily Mail yesterday .
This information comes as the government finally announces, months from the beginning of the pandemic, that care home staff will begin to be tested for the virus every week and residents every 28 days.
Serious questions need to be asked about why it has taken the government so long to implement a testing regime on this scale.
In addition to that we need to know how the lack of PPE and how advice given to hospitals and care homes at the start of the pandemic, telling them to discharge untested patients from hospital and place them in care homes, contributed to the appalling death toll.
If we are to emerge safely from this pandemic then we need to know the answers and learn lessons from them.
If nothing else we owe it to those who have died to ask the government to be transparent and open about what mistakes were made, and by doing so find ways to rectify them.
