Neighbourhood unity in Trowbridge during the COVID-19 pandemic

16 Jun 2020

THE COVID-19 pandemic has spurned a remarkable offshoot in Trowbridge - neighbourhood unity.

Cllr Jo Trigg

Liberaldemocrat Cllr Jo Trigg, who represents Trowbridge Lambrok ward on Wiltshire Council, said the reaction of people in her area to help each other through the tough months of the pandemic has drawn them closer.

And, when the new Trowbridge Area Board, which saw its first meeting this afternoon, gets up and running, that will give them the platform to push the momentum they have had in neighbourliness into the future.

Cllr Trigg, speaking at this morning's (Tuesday) full Wiltshire Council meeting, said: "I represent a ward, Trowbridge Lambrok, which is a brilliant ward but does not traditionally have strong community associations.

"But, in talking to the residents, that support from friends, neighbours and family has really started to come through and really started to gel.

"That community spirit is now going forward to activity beyond the traditional Covid actions so now we have got communities which are talking about plant swaps and things.

"So these are small community measures that I hope will give us stronger, more resilient communities coming off the back of this."

She added: "For me, the strength of Area Boards will be taking some of those fledgling communities who have not been that strong as an association before and gives us an opportunity to find some benefit from the current situation."
