More traffic wardens are on their way

THERE WAS CROSS party consensus when the town's budget was set that Swindon needed another four traffic wardens.

The Council budget went through in February with a 3.99% increase in Council tax as the Conservative government continues to put the squeeze on local government funding amid growing needs. One element universally agreed among the Swindon political parties was 4 more parking enforcement officers to help tackle the continuing abuse of street parking and residents parking.

Toby Robson said, "I remember a time when we had too many traffic wardens and it felt like we residents were being punished. However in recent years there have been so few traffic wardens that the Residents' Parking scheme has stopped being effective. This is a step in the right direction for keeping our streets for residents, but residents not being punished by excessive enforcement."
