Misinformation in Trowbridge

Trowbridge

Trowbridge residents are likely to see an onslaught from at some Conservative town councillors leading up to the local elections next year "slamming" the investments Trowbridge Town Council has made in the town by referring to the investment amount as "debt".

They will do this for three reasons:

1. To force local austerity by slashing and burning public services .
2. To create a sense of betrayal to boost their chances of being elected to the county council.
3. To force the town council to continue to pay private rent.

What they will not tell you is:

1. The "debt" is actually investment much of which is from a government scheme.
2. The investment has directly resulted in the creation of the cinema complex, restaurants, hotel, jobs for local people, money and footfall brought into the local economy.
3. Much of the investment is self-funded or funded from savings made by not renting privately.
4. The investment has happened whilst simultaneously keeping the council tax precept lower than many of the neighbouring towns.
5. Many of the facilities Trowbridge now has as a direct result of the investment are far superior to neighbouring towns.
6. The investment acts as a draw to further private investment.
7. Trowbridge was one of the only towns in the country that had the foresight to take advantage of the government scheme.

Isn't this what people want? Actual investment in their town whilst also keeping the council tax precept low? People have seen Trowbridge improve massively over recent years, but there is still so much more to do!

When you see the word "debt" instead of the accurate term "investment" being used in relation to Trowbridge Town Council, remember why these Conservatives are using it.

They want to slash investment, they want to slash public services and they want to create a betrayal narrative to get themselves elected to the county council.

Here's a good summary of what investments have been made in Trowbridge:
