Low adhesion as the most likely cause to Salisbury accident
Since the train accident between a South Western Railway and Great Western Railway train at Salisbury Tunnel Junction on Sunday evening, a Rail Accident Investigation Branch has investigated the scene, and new details have emerged.
According to the investigators, the most probable cause of the accident has been low adhesion between the wheels and the track, which has caused trains breaks not to function correctly.
Their early assessment shows the South Western Railway driver reacted correctly to the signals by braking to slow the train down.
"Initial findings indicate that the driver acted in an impeccable way in a valiant attempt to keep his passengers safe, staying at the controls throughout. We thank him for his actions, and we wish him a speedy recovery as he continues to be treated in hospital," South Western Railway said in their statement.
