Lib Dems condemn Everleigh Recycling Centre closure

Lib Dem Deputy Group Leader Cllr Ruth Hopkinson joined local residents in condemning Wiltshire Council's Conservative Cabinet‎'s decision to close the Everleigh Recycling Centre near Pewsey.

"Wiltshire Council's Conservative leadership has consistently underspent on capital assets and maintenance. The Everleigh Household Recycling Centre is a victim of that short sighted approach.

The Centre has been starved of investment for 20 years. Now the Conservative Cabinet say its repair and renovation costs mean it should close, is the day after the world's leading scientists call on everyone to recycle more."

Councillor Hopkinson added "Local residents and parish councils were asked and made it clear that they totally opposed the closure of the Everleigh Household Recycling Centre.

This Conservative Cabinet takes no notice of resident opinion. That begs the question why they bother to ask if they are just going to ignore the answer. That attitude needs to change."
