Lib Dems Call on Council to End Use of Carcinogenic Weed Killer
Wiltshire Lib Dems will call (in a motion at next week's Council meeting) for the end of Wiltshire Council's use of "glyphosate" herbicide to kill weeds on roads and pavements.
Many councils across the country have or are beginning to phase-out the use of glyphosate-based weed killers. Glyphosate's continued use threatens the health of Wiltshire's wildlife, residents and our pets.
Wiltshire Lib Dem Group Leader, Councillor Ian Thorn (Calne Central) says, "that continuing to use dangerous pesticides to manage our weeds is unnecessary and research indicates dangerous. In February last year, Wiltshire Lib Dems successfully pushed Tory-controlled Wiltshire Council to declare a climate emergency. End this use would be a small but important part of the process. We need to see action on this now."
The motion, put forward by Councillor Ian Thorn and Deputy Lib Dem Group Leader Councillor Ruth Hopkinson (Corsham Pickwick), will be debated at the next Full Council on Tuesday 25th February.
