Lib Dems call for more 20mph zones

Cllr Toby Robson says a constant complaint has been that after the Lib Dem Focus Team success in getting a 20mph limit speed for Lansdown Road there has been no new schemes in Eastcott 'side streets' in recent years.

Swindon Council withdrew the funding that made such schemes possible shortly afterwards.

In Bristol where 20mph limits have multiplied they have been shown to save 4 lives a year and are saving over £15M per year due to fewer casualty rates. The limits have also led to increases in people choosing to walk (up 10%) or cycle (up 5%).

Toby says " This lack of action is not what people want. People should feel safe walking and crossing our side streets on the way to school, work or to support local shops.

"Our campaign for the roads and streets of our community can be summed up as - We want plenty of twenty!"
