Without childcare investment we face returning to 1950s, Lib Dems warn

On Friday, research by the Institute for Fiscal Studies has found many childcare providers face big financial problems as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
  • Nurseries, pre-schools and childminders play a vital role in providing education and care to children but also in supporting families to get back to work.
  • Addressing the stark financial problems facing these early years providers should be an absolute priority for the Government.
  • Without more support for the childcare sector, we face the risk of returning to the 1950s with women carrying the load of caring duties and creating a two-tier workforce.
  • Young children and their families in South West Wiltshire will face further disruption said the lib dem spokesperson, Ellen Nicholson, and our economic recovery is at risk if parents and guardians are unable to work due to a lack of childcare: the Government must act.
