Fact Checking Tory Mistruths ep.1
In the past few days we've seen local Conservatives trying to claim that leaving the EU has allowed the UK to ban pulse fishing and abolish VAT on the tampon tax.
Sadly for the Tories both are statements are patently untrue and easily disproved
The EU banned pulse fishing on 13 February 2019 when the UK was a FULL member to take effect in 2021. Here's the news item from Feb 2019 discussing the ban. https://euractiv.com/section/agriculture-food/news/eu-approves-ban-on-electric-pulse-fishing-from-2021/…
The Tampon tax is easy too. In October 2015 MPs voted against opening a discussion with the EU on abolishing the VAT on sanitary products, only 3 conservative Mps rebelled against the whip to vote for the change, SW Wiltshire's MP was NOT one of them.
Why the sudden interest in it now, is it because they are suddenly looking for things to justify leaving the EU?
