British firms do not have the resilience to cope with a no-deal Brexit

11 Jun 2020

British firms do not have the resilience to cope with a no-deal Brexit after the battering of the coronavirus crisis, according to the outgoing boss of industry body the CBI.

Carolyn Fairbairn said a CBI member had likened a no-deal to "setting the shed on fire" while the house was in flames.

Brexit trade negotiations have not been going well between the UK and the EU.

It couldn't be more serious. Our economy is on its knees

Yet yesterday when Ed Davey urged Boris Johnson to extend the transition, he said "no"

Dangerously irresponsible

A government spokesperson said the UK wanted to reach an agreement with the EU this year. Yet there
are now just 19 days left to extend the transition period to safeguard the British economy and jobs. Deadline is the 30th June 2020.

This is NOT about Brexit (which has already happened) extending the transition is about minimising the impact of #Covid19 on our communities, livelihoods and population.
