Boris Johnson has got to go
The saga of the Conservative party in Government rolls on into another day, crisis after crisis and scandal after scandel have beset the Country and the Government under Johnson.
After over 38 resignations since yesterday, Johnson is now refusing to quit despite no longer having the numbers to continue.
The lack of numbers to effectively fill the positions and run a government was made clear to Johnson at the liaison committee this afternoon, but he still persists in refusing to accept the inevitable.
What been interesting throughout the day is to see how many Conservatives are finally admitting that the opposition parties were correct about Boris Johnson's integrity, we've been pointing this out for what seems like years …….
The 1922 committee executive met earlier today and decided not to change the rules to allow a second no confidence vote in Boris Johnson as the election to the committee is imminent. Instead, the executive elections to the committee will be held on Monday 11th July between 2pm to 4pm, then the new committee can decide if they will change the rules
Of course, if Johnson won't go, and he doesn't have the support of the majority of the Conservative party - think numbers - remember he recently won a vote of no confidence by 211 votes to 148.
Now consider the recent 38+ resignations which totals to 186 Conservative MPs against him.
The Conservatives hold 358 seats, that means only 172 Conservative MPs are with him or as yet undeclared as to who they may support. There have been a number of tweets, Facebook posts and emails through the day from those 172 MPs withdrawing their support from Johnson, so the number is far less than 172 supportive MPs.
The Opposition could of course call the Conservatives bluff, and call a vote of no confidence, a vote in which MPs from all parties decide whether they want the government to continue. It has the power to trigger a general election and could see a new prime minister appointed.
Watch this space for the continuing saga at Number 10 - this is Britain's Trump showing his true colours.
One can only hope the Conservative learn from this experience and pick their next leader more wisely.
