Bath Road Development hangs in the balance

1 Nov 2018

As many will have noticed, the Redrow sign has disappeared from Bath Road, Pickwick. This may be due to Redrow pulling out of the deal but Gladman Developments are fighting on against local opposition.

Pickwick Liberal Democrat Wiltshire Cllr Ruth Hopkinson has fought this plan for years, alongside the Pickwick Association, but although the missing sign is a good omen, we shouldn't count our chickens.

"Gladman, who made the planning application, are now appealing two decisions by Wiltshire Council stating Gladman has failed to meet the conditions placed on the approval," says Ruth.

"The Planning Inspectorate has indicated that it will reach a decision in 2019. If it upholds the appeal, the development will go ahead. If it decides in Wiltshire Council's favour, the permission will lapse (though Gladman may apply again). If the appeal fails I will do all I can to ensure that the tree is liberated, the wall is rebuilt, the newts and bats are allowed to roam freely and the footpath is reinstated."
