Higher rate tax band ()

Conservative-held constituencies have been disproportionately hit by fiscal drag - where a higher proportion of income goes into tax as wages rise - with almost a million voters pulled into the higher-rate tax band.

About 1.7 million people have become higher-rate taxpayers since the general election in 2019, according to HM Revenue & Customs.

Analysis by the Liberal Democrats found that 34 of the 50 worst-hit constituencies are held by Conservatives.

Here in South West Wiltshire 2,700 voters being dragged into the higher threshold, just at a time when the cost of living crisis is set to worsen.
