Beyond disappointing - Politicising the work of Wiltshire Council staff

October 9, 2020 6:41 PM

A poster which claims credit for work done by Wiltshire Council has been slammed by the Liberal Democrats.

The poster was shared on social media claiming Wiltshire Conservatives had provided thousands of units of PPE, coordinated more than 420 volunteers and provided digital devices to children, among other things.

The Lib Dems branded them 'false claims' and accused the Wiltshire Conservative Party of politicising the Covid-19 crisis.

In reality, the work was carried out by Wiltshire Council as a whole and all councillors have worked tirelessly for the majority of t year.

Lib Dem Group Leader, Cllr Ian Thorn said: "This is appalling. At a time when we should be coming together to fight coronavirus, the Wiltshire Conservative Party is following in the footsteps of the Government by using the pandemic for political gain. The claims are not only false but disregard the work done by Wiltshire Council officers and frontline staff.

"It is beyond disappointing that Wiltshire's Conservatives have insulted the intelligence of local people by purposely misleading them in an attempt to use the pandemic to their political advantage. The dishonesty and contempt for local people and Council workers is inexcusable."
