South West Wilts current Conservative MP, Andrew Murrison with defence secretary Ben Wallace, acting for the government initially argued against condemning Turkeys assault on the Kurds. Not only that, the UK government also refused to join other EU countries in stopping selling arms to Erdogan's government.

This is a shameful betrayal of the Kurdish people by our government and this constituencies current MP. The Kurdish people were steadfast allies in the war against ISIS but are being betrayed in order to allow arm sales to continue to the Turkish regime.

However one day later, on Tuesday Turkey strikes (), under pressure from allies, the U.K. government has now altered its stance after diplomats widely criticised the UK for putting a possible free trade agreement post Brexit ahead of its allies.," Following wide condemnation, the UK will continue selling arms to Turkey but will not grant new export licences for weapons which might be used in military operations in Syria.

South West Wilts Parliamentary Candidate for the Lib Dems, Ellen Nicholson says 'the fact is this government has a reputation for distorting the truth, despite assurances today from the foreign minister that this situation will be closely monitored, the real concern is how this alteration to policy will be observed and what accountibility the government has should any breaches occur.

South West Wiltshire deserves so much better than this. 🔶Vote Liberal Democrat 🔶
