Advice to those thinking of using a gym. Walk or cycle to the gym. When you get there, turn around and go home. You'll have had your exercise for free and without complications. If you choose not to take this advice then here's a release from WC touting for your trade:

Start a healthier lifestyle at a Wiltshire Council gym in 2018

If your new year's resolution is to get fit and healthy in 2018, there is no better place than one of our leisure centres.

Making a commitment to improve your health and get fitter is easy to do - and even small changes can make a big difference to your health and wellbeing. We offer a number of different memberships to suit your individual requirements - including gym, swim or group exercise classes (or a combination of all three). Once you've joined, we offer a full induction providing you with an individualised programme, a free personal coaching session with one of our friendly fitness consultants and a free group exercise class pass to use yourself or give to a friend. We also help you to reach your fitness goals through achievable steps.

John Thomson, cabinet member for leisure said: "We are committed to improving the health of people in Wiltshire. A great deal of investment has gone in to improving the quality of our gyms, making them the perfect place to start your new year's resolutions.

"If you're looking to get fit and healthy in a friendly, welcoming and supportive environment, look no further."

If you commit to regular physical activity and consider all aspects of your lifestyle, it's very possible to make excellent progress. We have many examples of people that (sic) have made life changing improvements to their physical and mental wellbeing just like Cheryl, who joined Durrington Swimming & Fitness Centre to get fitter, stay healthy and lose some weight. She now feels more toned, fitter and has the feel good factor that exercise brings, as well as increasing her friendship group.

Cheryl's story is typical of so many of our members and proves that physical activity can be for anyone, regardless of experience, ability or condition. For more information, prices and membership details, see
