Warminster care home construction begins

December 7, 2012 2:16 PM

Construction will start on a new 80 bed nursing home on the Beckford Centre site in Warminster later this month, and should be complete by the end of 2014.

The home is being built by Northcote Ryder Ltd in partnership with The Orders of St John Care Trust, which will provide the care in the new home, and housing association bpha (Bedfordshire Pilgrims Housing Association) which is funding the initiative.

This development forms part of Wiltshire Council's older people accommodation development strategy which seeks to modernise the way older people's accommodation is provided giving choice and control to individuals and responding to needs in local communities.

Dan Hayes, Operations Director at OSJCT said: "We are absolutely delighted that the green light has been given for this wonderful new service for the people of Warminster. We will take all that is excellent from our Woodmead home and put it into this fabulous new building, which will provide ensuite facilities for all as well as state of the art facilities and equipment".

Wiltshire Council cabinet member for adult care, John Thomson, said: "I'm delighted construction is imminent on this fantastic facility. This home will provide modern fit-for-purpose accommodation which will meet the care needs of the increasing number of older people in Wiltshire."

Jon Petty, Senior Development Manager at bpha, said: "Bpha have worked very closely with both Wiltshire Council and the Orders of St John Care Trust, in designing and delivering this high quality new care home, which will provide excellent care home facilities, fit for the 21st Century. I believe all involved can be proud of their achievements in delivering such a first class facility for our elderly care residents."

Planning permission for the development was granted in September. It will replace the existing Woodmead care home run by The Orders of St John Care Trust. Consultation has already begun with the existing residents of Woodmead and their families to ensure a smooth transition when the new development is complete.
