David Cavill
Town councillor for Trowbridge Paxcroft. Standing for Trowbridge Park in the forthcoming local elections for both Town and Wiltshire Councils.
David currently represents Trowbridge Paxcroft ward on Trowbridge Town Council, as he has done for almost eight years He was immensely proud to have been Mayor of Trowbridge just two years after he was first elected, and he has been Chair of Neighbourhood Services for the last four years. He has been selected to stand in Park Ward in the forthcoming election for both Town and Wiltshire Councils.
He has also been a councillor in Berkshire for what was then Bracknell District Council, where he served as Chair of Environment. With his wife, Angela, he moved to Trowbridge in 2007.
He believes in the power of individuals and encourages residents to become involved in all aspects of community life.
Originally a teacher in very large comprehensive schools, David was variously appointed a head of department, a year tutor and head of house before he left teaching to set up his own business in partnership with his wife, Angela. They were head-hunted by the Board of Battersea Dogs Home, with Angela being responsible for staff education and training while David was deputy to the Home’s Director General. They established a distance learning college in 1980, writing most of the courses, and David became a leader in the development of government training schemes for the caring of companion animals. David has written several books and keeps busy as a journalist and publisher.
David helped found and is now President of the Pet Education, Training and Behaviour Council and still sits on the Board of the Association of Distance Learning Colleges.
Locally, David has been a Trustee of two grant giving charities and of the Town Hall Trust. He is a board member of Paxcroft Mead Community Centre and recently signed up to be a volunteer driver with the Link scheme, which helps those less able to get to doctor's and hospital appointments
David says, ‘I love living in Trowbridge: the people are positive and kind and, mostly, very proud of their town. It’s not perfect, so there is still much to do - and would like to continue to be part of the process’.
David, is a member of Wiltshire Climate Alliance, has long been committed to a bypass for Westbury, has been active in the campaign surrounding the planning application for the proposed incinerator and has an exceptional record in supporting residents while a councillor for Trowbridge where he served as Mayor in 2019/20. He is not satisfied with things as they are: he wants to make them better and has a reputation for getting things done!
