A scheme to build a marina to hold 248 boats was approved by planners in March 2010. A field at the foot of Caen Hill locks, beside the A361, will be dug out to form the marina. There will be an access from the road at Lower Foxhangers. There will be 124 car parking spaces, mooring jetties and walkways, an administration block, a service quay and a lifting bridge where the canal access crosses the towpath.
Planning officers recommended the project for approval with fourteen conditions. They said that although it will be a large and widely visible development in the countryside the economic benefits make it worthwhile. However objectors pointed out that the moorings are for absentee owners rather than residential boaters so there will be no great benefit to the local economy.
Members of the eastern area planning committee approved the scheme unanimously.
