Representatives of the Home Start service which operates in Salisbury and Kennet districts are concerned that changes to the way Wiltshire Council commissions family support services could hit the work they do.
New 'harmonised' contracts could mean families no longer getting the support provided by Home-Start.
Lynn Hiscock, chair of the trustees of the charity for South Wiltshire, wrote to cabinet members pointing out that 100 volunteers have been able to help 130 families and 250 children over the last year, including military families. Loss of funding from the council could mean other funders dropping out, and if the charity ceased to operate the long term costs to the council would be far more than the current level of grant from WC.
Representatives of the charity lobbied Wiltshire Council's 'cabinet' at its meeting on November 16th, Councillors said they couldn't change the harmonisation process, but agreed the council should work closely with the charity during the commissioning period for the new contract.
