After last winter's snows Wiltshire Council asked parish councils if they needed more grit bins to keep the roads safe.
Bins are used on bits of road which are not part of the normal salting routes and where the road is steep or prone to icing.
Town and Parish Councils came back with requests for 422 bins. In response Wiltshire Council has said they can have just 100.
Instead of thinking about the best sites for the restricted number of new bins the council will allocate them on a percentage basis in comparison with existing provision, so the areas which have lots of bins already will get more, whilst areas with few bins will get less. Each area board will get a 10% increase on the number they have at the moment.
First prize goes to South West Wiltshire area - has 111, asked for 57 more and will get 11. The wooden spoon goes to Trowbridge - has 12, asked for 12, gets one.
