Codford has responded positively to Wiltshire Council's request for volunteers to take less street lighting.
Under the scheme selected lights would be fitted with a switch to turn them off between midnight and 5am. The cost of the device would be paid for over four years by the savings in electricity.
Working with Wiltshire Police the parish council surveyed the village street lights and identified 38 which could be switched off between those hours.
In a detailed consultation exercise with villagers there was a substantial majority in support of the scheme. Many of those who did not support it quoted fear of crime as their reason.
Codford PC have now asked the Warminster Area Board meeting on November 11th to give the go-ahead.
