As part Wiltshire Council's asset-stripping programme, it is redeveloping four 'hubs' to provide what it calls "modernised facilities and improved consistency across the organisation".
Staff will be encouraged to adopt more flexible working practices such as mobile working, home working and hot desking.
The remodelling of County Hall will begin in early 2011 creating a new entrance, enabling access to the relocated library, registrar's office and café. An atrium area will be created by covering the courtyard with a translucent roof at high level.
Energy saving measures will include new high-performance windows, additional insulation to walls and the roof, and major improvements to lighting, heating and ventilation.
Plans showing what the re-modelled County Hall will look like will be on show on Monday 11 October between 11am and 3pm, in the Chestnut Room, Conference and Development Centre, via County Hall reception.
Members of the asset-stripping team will be present to answer questions about the project.
The order of works and approximate timescales are:
County Hall - phase one
February 2011 for around a year, the first phase of building work will focus on the new entrance / reception area in the quadrant.
County Hall - phase two
Work to the Old County Hall building is expected to start in February 2012 and should be complete by January 2013.
George Ward school in Melksham will be the primary site for temporary staff moves during the hub remodelling.
